78 APPENDIX.
The Inspector shall report at the next Meeting of the Education
Committee what means were adopted during every such case of
ahsence.
2. Assistants and Pupil Teachers.
78. An absence of three days for an ordinary illness may be
allowed by the Head Master, provided that the Assistant or
Pupil Teacher give satisfactory evidence to him that such ab-
sence is caused by sickness, and that he reports the same at once
to the Treasurer and Inspector.
79. If the illness should prove more serious than was at first
anticipated, and shall extend beyond a week, application, accom-
panied by a medical certificate, shall be made to the Treasurer
for a fortnight's further absence, and should a paid substitute be
retpiired during this absence the payment shall be made by the
Governors. If, however, at the outset the illness should threaten
to extend over a longer period than a week, application shall be
made in the first instance for a three weeks' absence, the Gover-
nors defraying all necessary expenses in providing a supply. All
such cases shall be reported to the first meeting of the Educa-
tion Committee.
80. If the illness shall extend beyond three weeks, fresh ap-
plication shall be made to the Education Committee through
the Treasurer for a further leave of absence not exceeding five
additional weeks, on the understanding that one-half of the pay-
ment made to the substitute for the said additional period shall
be deducted from the salary of the absent Teacher.
81. If, however, any Assistant or Pupil Teacher shall be ab-
sent from sickness for two entire months, the Inspector is re-
quired to make a special report of the case to the Education
Committee, in order that they may consider whether it is desir-
able that the teacher's connection with the School should be
closed.
82. The allowance made to any substitute for an absent
Assistant shall be .It must be distinctly
understood that any temporary appointment does not imply or
give any claim to any more permanent appointment under the
Governors.
