The importance of Heriot's Hospital as a great educa-
tional institution, extending its benefits to so many thousands
of the citizens through its Hospital, Elementary Schools,
and Evening Classes, is annually increasing, and it must be
a source of unmixed gratification to Mr Duncan M'Laren,
the venerable Member for the City, whose name and ser-
vices must ever be regarded as supreme in the establishment
of the Heriot Schools, that the far-sighted scheme initiated
in 1836 has been gradually productive of such stupendous
results.
