Sir John Lauder of Fountainhall,
Bart., to which rank he seems to have
been elevated in 1690 having attained
the rank of a Lord of Session in the pre-
ceding year. Sir John was brought up
to the law, and left several very curious
manuscripts, particularly a collection of
the decisions of the Court of Session,
from 1678 to 1712, which has since been
published in 1761. He married Mar-
garet, second daughter of Sir Alexan-
der Seton, Lord Pitmedden, a Lord of
Session, (her sister Anne at the same time
marrying William Dick, of Grange,
Esq., as recorded in the note below) and
by her had several children, the eldest
of whom, Andrew, succeeded him. The
daughters were, 1. Helen, married
George, the fourth Lord Banff; 2. Is-
abel, married Thomas Scot, of Millenie,
Esq. ; 3. Janet, married Charles Con-
