done. He stayed the whole summer, visiting
and serving his friends to the utmost of
his power. In October he sent home his

At thisi time he took his last leave of
the King, for whose apparent misfortunes
lie was much concerned ; having had, as
his widow informed me, several serious dis-
courses with him upon the then posture of
affairs, about settling the differences like to
arise, and sometimes agreeable resolutions
were taken, but one way or other prevented
from being executed.

At their last parting, standing alone with
the King in a window, who looking out, said,
" The wind was now fair for the Prince of
Qrange his coming over :" upon which Ro-
bert Barclay took occasion to say, " It was
hard that no expedient could be found out
