Experiences of the Great War

Back to the classroom

Records show that George Ramage returned to teaching in Edinburgh after the First World War.

He taught first at North Cannongate Primary School and then at Sciennes Primary School.

The most significant insight we have into this period of his life comes from a brief entry in the Sciennes School Centenary book, published in 1992. In it, a Mr James McLaren, who appears to have been at the school from 1920 to 1930, notes that Ramage had been a well-liked and respected teacher:

'Mr Ramage had only one hand but none of us mentioned it. He was a fine man and had a humanity that many others failed to display.'
