Experiences of the Great War

War is declared

In his personal diary he notes the flurry of activity on 5 August, the day after Britain declared war on Germany.

'Wednesday 5 [August 1914]
Motor to London to W[ar]. O[ffice]. Am ordered to attend meeting in Prime Ministers House re action of Gt. Britain — we meet 4 p.m: after meeting take Lord Kitchener in motor to War Office.'
