(b) This system of extra time shall be continued until a decision
has been reached.
(c) A player who was ordered from the water—but not for the
rest of the game—must not be permitted to resume with his
team for extra time until a goal has been scored.
HINTS TO REFEREES
z. KNOW THE RULES.
2. Use a good strong clear whistle (pea stone type).

Always be strict.
4. Do not introduce rules or pet theories of your own.
5. Never hesitate upon strict application of the Rules. (But do
not be fanatical.)
6. Be " business like " on the side of the bath; in other words,
don't be slovenly in your actions.
7. Signal your decision with clarity, using your flags in no
uncertain manner.
8. Let your demeanour indicate that you are in charge of the
match, without exaggerating your own importance. Strict,
FAIR AND CONSISTENT refereeing eliminates rough play.
9. Remember the advantage rule.
io. Be definite in your decisions.

Satisfy yourself that Goal Judges and Timekeeper have a good
knowledge of what is required of them.

Make certain Goal Judges and Timekeeper are in position for
the " off."

Be severe on fighting and loss of temper.

Do not be influenced by spectators—remember supporters have
a right to shout and spur their team on.
z6. It is not advisable to enter into arguments with players or
spectators during or immediately after a match.

purpose of

in " practice " matches.

A few words of advice to players of both teams, immediately
before a game, is the practice of some prominent referees.
z9. Prior to a match, just glance over the Rules, it will give you
confidence in application.

When off duty always be willing to discuss and explain Rules.

The secret of a successful referee is PLENTY OF PRACTICE
and frequent studying of the Rules.

After a goal has been scored urge players to take up their
respective positions on their goal lines with a minimum waste
of time.

Ensure that players take up proper alignment on their respective
goal-lines at the start or restart of the game.
24. Encourage players to have respect for spectators when throwing
the ball to the referee.
