SQUASH RACKETS 741
Permanent Rules
1. Eligibility.—The Championship is open to all male officers
and other ranks of the active Army at home and abroad, whose
period of colour service including release leave has not expired on or
before the last day of the Championship.
2. Date of the Championship.—The Championship is an annual
individual knock-out competition and normally takes place during
December
3. Restriction of Entries.—There will be no restriction of
entries, but if more than 64 entries are received, preliminary rounds
will be held as necessary.
4. Plate Competition.—A Plate Competition has been run con-
currently with the Championship, for Championship competitors
who are knocked out in the first round. Owing to the small
number of entries in recent years, it has been decided to discontinue
this event.
5. The Courts.—The Championship will be played in London,
and normally on the courts of the United Service Club, and the
Naval and Military Club, subject to the agreement of the
Committees of these Clubs. Play will take place in the morning or
afternoon, leaving the courts free for the use of members in the
evening. The courts of the two service clubs will as far as possi-
ble be used in rotation, subject to the necessity of using three or four
courts during the early rounds.
6. Entry Fee.—The entry fee for the Championship will be not
more than £ 1.
7. Closing Date for Entries.—Entries will close approximately
one month before the Championship starts in order to allow time for
the Draw to be made, printed, and circulated to competitors.
Entries will be made direct to the Hon. Secretary, Army Squash
Rackets Association. Entries received after the advertised closing
date will be accepted subject to the discretion of the Committee, or
to fill a vacancy caused by the withdrawal of a Competitor.
8. Return of Entry Fees.—If the Hon. Secretary, Army Squash
Rackets Association, receives notice of a withdrawal on or before the
Monday preceding the start of the Championship, the entry fee will
be returned to the Competitor concerned. No entry fees will be
returned after this date.
9. The Ball.
(a) The ball used during the Championship will be that selec-
ted by the Squash Rackets Association for use in the
Amateur Championship of the current year.
(b) The ball for each match will be provided by the marker.
A new ball will be provided for each match in the quarter
final and later rounds, but not in the earlier rounds.
