ATHLETICS
3. Conditions
(a) The competitions will be held under A.A.A. Laws.
(b) The Army stage of the Championships will be managed by a
Tug
-of
-War Championships Hon. Secretary,
who will be appointed
annually by the Executive Committee.
(c) The competitions will be decided on a knock-out basis.
(d) Eight
Teams at each weight will go forward to the Army stage.
The Commands/Districts from which these Teams will be found
will be decided annually by the Executive Committee.
(e)
The
draw
for the Quarter-finals will take place at the venue
under the auspices of the Tug-of-War Championships Hon. Sec-
retary.
(f
) Semi-finals and Finals will take place on the same day as the
Inter-Unit Athletic Championships. Weather permitting, the two
finals will be pulled in the Athletics arena and included in the
programme.

4. Rules
A.A.A. Rule

Attention is drawn to the opening paragraph—
Teams.
In the Army a Tug-of-War Team consists of
eight
competitors
and one coach.
As regards
Boots
and Shoes, the Championships Hon. Secretary
is empowered to amplify the " Note " to this paragraph.
" A.A.A. Rule

Teams
Teams shall consist of an equal number of competitors, who
shall be subject to first claim rule and team qualification. A Coach,
who must also be an amateur under A.A.A. Laws, is allowed.
. Age
In open competition, no member of a team shall be under the
age of seventeen years.
Weights
In competitions confined to specified weights, Stewards shall be
appointed, and shall be responsible to the Judge for correctly
weighing the competitors before the start.
Draw and Byes
Competing teams shall be drawn in pairs, and all byes shall be
disposed of in the First Round. Where three teams only compete,
the team drawing the bye shall—if defeated by the winner of the
First Round—pull for second place. There shall be only one
draw made.
Heats
All heats shall be won by two pulls out of three.
