a Team and Individual Cross Country Championship
was instituted.
After a break of five war years Team and Individual Champion-
ships on a Command basis were held in
1945/46.
Inter-Unit Cross
Country Championships were held in
1947
but it was not until
1949
that the Inter-Unit Team Championships were reintroduced
in Athletics and Road Walking.
Road Walking was introduced in the Army in
1942,
and in the
same year the Association was affiliated to the Road Walking
Association. In
1951
it was decided to discontinue Road Walking
in the Army.
The Inter-Unit Team Tug-of-War Championships were re-
introduced in the Inter-Unit Team Athletic Championships in
1
953•
Since
1945
the Women's Athletic Championships have been held
concurrently with those of men.
In
1932
there was one event for Enlisted Boys which had increased
to four events by
1954,
in the same year the age limit was adjusted
to conform to A.A.A.'s events for Youths, and the term " Army
Boys " was adopted.
In
1957
a separate Boys' Individual Athletic Championships was
introduced.
In
1958
a Cross-Country Team Race was instituted for Teams
from Apprentice Schools and Units, Junior Leaders Units and
Bandmaster Units.

II.
Rules of the Association
Rule 1—Name and Affiliations
The Association shall be called the Army Athletic Association.
The short title shall be Army A.A. thus avoiding confusion with
the Amateur Athletic Association (A.A.A.).
The Army A.A. is affiliated to the A.A.A. and the English Cross-
Country Union (E.C.C.U.), and observes their Laws and Rules for
competition.
The Army A.A. is represented on the A.A.A. General Committee.
It has two representatives on the A.A.A. Southern Committee,
and one each on Midland Counties A.A.A., Northern Counties
A.A.A. and Welsh A.A.A. and a delegate to the Scottish A.A.A.,
and two delegates on the E.C.C.U. Executive Committee.
Rule 2—Objects
(a) To act as a governing body for Athletics in the Army.
(b) To work in accordance with the policy of the Army Sport
Control Board in the encouragement of Athletics, Cross-Country
running and Tug-of-War in the Army.
(c) To ensure the correct conduct of Athletics, Cross-Country
running and Tug-of-War in the Army.
(d) To arrange Army Individual and Army Inter-Unit Champion-
ship competitions.
(e) To arrange and select Teams for Inter-Services and other
representative matches.
