1939. The Army Inter-Unit Swimming Championships were
held for the first time. A Cup for this event was presented
by the Army Sport Control Board.

939-45 No Competition.
1946. Army and Inter-Service Swimming Championships were
resumed. Events now being, loo Yards, 220 Yards, 440
Yards Free Style, loo Yards Breast Stroke, loo Yards Back
Stroke, loo Yards Enlisted Boys Free Style, loo Yards T.A.
Free Style Races, Firm Board Diving, Spring Board Diving,
Plunging and a 6 x 66 2/3 Yards Inter-Unit Free Style Relay
at the Army Meeting.

1947. Army Women's Services Swimming Championships Events
held at the Army Championships Meeting and the Women's
Inter-Service Championships instituted.

1950. A Combined Services Team, of which the majority were
Army Swimmers, competed in the International Military
Swimming Tournament in Belgium.
Inter-Unit Water Polo Championship instituted, and for
which the Otter S.C. presented a Cup.
1951• Inter-Unit Team Swimming Championship introduced.
Combined Services One Mile Championship held and Air
Marshal Sir John Whitworth-Jones presented Challenge Cup
to be held by the winner for one year.
Plunging discontinued in Army and Inter-Service Champ-
ionships.
1952. Inter-Service Championships divided into three separate
Competitions; Swimming, Diving and Water Polo.
One Mile event included in the Inter-Service Swimming
Championships.

954• Enlisted Boys' Championships were first held at Aldershot
with 2 events : loo yards Free Style and an Inter-Unit
Team Relay Race (4

As a result of a legacy bequeathed to the Army Swimming
Union by Brigadier I. L. H. Mackillop, C.B.E. a silver
trophy to be known as the " Mackillop Bowl " was presented
to be held by the winners of the Boys Inter-Unit Team Relay
Race for one year.

1956. Inter-Unit Life Saving Competition for Units at home
instituted.
Army Inter-Unit Swimming Runners-Up Cup formerly
the Gethin-Jones Hockey Challenge Cup for British Troops
in the Sudan presented.
