(c) The best way to overcome this is' to deal with all finishes
on the lines of a Three Miles Team Race. That is to say,
credit every man who fails to finish or is disqualified with
the sum of the total number of starters in the race plus
one. To do this it is necessary to ascertain the number
starting in each sub-unit before the race starts.
An example of this scoring is as follows :
In a unit run 439 men go to the start. " A " Company
provide 6'7 of these. Three men of " A " Company fail to
finish and so to their total score is added three times 440
—the score is then divided by 67.
