MAINTENANCE OF SQUASI4
RACKETS
COURTS
Walls
The walls should be washed down periodically with warm water,
used with a sponge and mild soap.
The washing should be commenced from the floor upwards, as
in washing paintwork, to avoid streaks.
Where there are ball stains on the walls, a common nail scrubber
could be used, and hard rubbing with the sponge will not do any
harm.
Care should be taken not to use too much water, as the walls
must not be saturated. The floor should be protected during the
cleaning process.
Floors
The court should be swept out frequently to prevent the floor
from becoming darkened, through dirt being worked into the grain
of the wood.
The floors could be washed, say, once a month, after they have
been laid about 18 months. Under no circumstances must too
much water be used, and .the floor should be properly dried off,
otherwise it will swell excessively.
A " dry-scrubber " could be used with a little silver sand on
the floor if washing is not desirable.
Generally
No one should be allowed in the courts unless wearing white or
crepe rubber shoes. Shoes with black or red rubber soles should
not be permitted.
A mat should be kept just outside the court door.
Courts should not be kept shut up for long periods, but
thoroughly aired by opening doors and windows at least twice a
week.
