SWIMMING
52'7
When a goalkeeper is awarded a free throw, other than a goal
throw, he may depute the nearest player of his team to take the
throw from where the foul occurred. When the goal-keeper is
penalised for holding the bar or rail at the end of the bath, the
free throw must be taken from where such foul occurred.
If a goalkeeper, taking a free throw, or goal throw, releases the
ball, and before any other player has touched it, regains possession,
and allows it to pass through the goal, a corner throw must be
awarded.
Should a goalkeeper retire from a game through illness or injury,
the referee must, on request of the captain, at once allow another
player to act as goalkeeper ; otherwise, the goalkeeper can only be
changed at half-time or the beginning(s) or half-time(s) of extra
time(s), by another player of the team, after reporting to the referee.
In any other circumstance, any player defending the goal must not
be allowed goalkeeper's limitations and privileges.
Starting
II.
At the start or re-start of a game, the players must take up
position about one yard apart on their respective goal-lines, and
wait the referee's signal, after he has ascertained the teams are
ready. The start is by one blast on the whistle, and the referee
must then release or throw the ball into the centre of the field of
play.
Scoring
12.
A goal is scored by the ball passing fully over the goal-line
into the goal, and may be scored by any part of the body, pro-
vided, at the start or re-start,
(I)
the ball has been played by a
player of each team, or
(2)
by two players of the same team, in
which case the scorer must be within half-distance of the goal
attacked, or (3) by three. or more players of the same team, pro-
vided always that the ball has been played by the second or
subsequent player in the opponents' half. An attempt by the
goalkeeper to stop the ball before it has been played in this way
does not constitute playing, and should the ball cross the goal line,
hit the goal post or goalkeeper, a goal throw must be awarded
against the offending player.
Playing the ball means to handle the ball with the palm
side of the hand.
Should a foul occur before this rule has been complied with,
Rules 15,
16
and
1'7
operate.
Goal-Throw
13. A player throwing, or off whom the ball goes over his
opponents' goal-line, concedes a goal throw to the defending goal-
keeper, who from his normal position between the goal-posts must
pass the ball to another player, or beyond the two-yards line.
