CRICKET
251
In
1934,
the R.A.F. fixture at the Oval was changed by mutual
consent to Aldershot and Halton in alternate years. It was felt that
the Oval was an unsuitable ground for an Inter-Service fixture.
In
1935
the fixture with Cambridge University was revived. In
1
937
the match with Oxford was added, so that the fixture list now
includes games with both Universities, the Royal Navy, Royal Air
Force, and the Public Schools.
REPRESENTATIVE COLOURS
In
1914
all the members of the Army XI playing against the Navy,
at Lords, wore a bright scarlet cap, with a device on the front of
it in gold ; but since that match the cap has never been seen again.
The question of a cap and blazer was raised at a General
Com-
mittee Meeting in
1919
and has been discussed since. In
1
933,
however, it was definitely decided to inaugurate an Army Cricket
Cap of dark blue with the lion and crown crest in white. The team
first wore this cap in the R.A.F. match in
1934•
It was decided that
all those who had prayed cricket for the Army in England in Inter-
Service or other first-class representative fixtures would be eligible
to wear the cap. The question of a blazer and tie was shelved for
the time being.
GROUNDS
Since it has no funds available, the Association is not in a position
to help materially to provide cricket grounds for the Army, but the
provision of cricket grounds is one of the objects of the Association,
and the Army Sport Control Board, which provides funds for this
purpose, has invariably lent a sympathetic ear to representations put
forward by the Association.
Since complaints concerning cricket grounds very rarely reach the
Association, it is reasonable to infer that the grounds provided give
entire satisfaction. On the only occasion upon which a complaint
was made to the Association the Chairman undertook to give the
matter his personal attention, and it was at once brought to the
notice of the Army Sport Control Board, who immediately took the
matter up.
