ARMY FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
1881 to 1932
The writer finds it extremely difficult, some 44 or 45 years after
the event, to give an accurate account not only of the formation
of the Army Football Association but of the inauguration of the
Challenge Cup competition, and he has therefore decided to
include an extract from the minutes of the first meeting held in
connection therewith, and of those of the newly-elected Committee
which followed.
There is no indication as to how and when the idea originated,
but there is no doubt that Harry McCalmont, then in the Scots
Guards, and F. E. Lawrence, of the Rifle Brigade, took a
prominent part not only in the formation but in the actual working
of the newly-formed body.
