| Description | General Tamagnini, commander of the Portuguese Expeditionary Force. He is standing on the steps leading into a large brick building. It is a close-up shot and the General is looking directly into the camera. Although dressed in full uniform, he looks somewhat dishevelled. He is carrying a cane in his right hand. The interior of the building is just visible through an open doorway behind him. Although Portugal declared its support for the Allies in 1914, they did not enter the war until Germany declared war. The declaration of war in 1916 was in response to the seizing of German ships in Portuguese waters.
