| Description | Officers being trained in bayonet practice. Most Corps developed training schools in France, to which officers could be sent to learn how to train their own troops. This became increasingly necessary as the war progressed and many of the more experienced officers had been killed. As late as April 1918, William Fraser, then a senior officer attached to a training school, complained, 'It is almost extraordinary how few officers do understand how to train, or to organise for training.' [Original reads: 'Scene at a school of instruction for officers.'] |
