| Description | This photograph is a group shot of a number of Allied officers with King George V of Britain (1865-1936) who is standing third from right in the front row. George V, who reigned from 1910 to1936, visited the Front on several occasions. This sort of official occasion would have been intended to cement the sometimes strained relationships of the Allied commanders. George V was aware of the potential difficulties of his close ties with the German royal family. In 1917 he changed the family name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to the more English-sounding 'Windsor'.
