| Description | The Duke of Connaught inspecting troops, France, during World War I. HRH Arthur the Duke of Connaught (1850-1942) is walking along a line of troops during an inspection. Other senior officers walk on his right. The troops are a battalion of the King's Royal Rifle Corps. During World War I, this regiment had 22 battalions in action, mostly at the Western Front. The Duke of Connaught was the seventh child of Queen Victoria and had served as Governor-General of Canada from 1910-1916.
