| Description | King Nikola I Petrovic of Montenegro ( 1860-1918) has been photographed by John Warwick Brooke with Sir Douglas Haig, the Commander-in-Chief of the British forces. They are standing on the steps of a brick-built house with louvered shutters. The king is wearing Montenegrin costume with his revolver stuck in the wide, patterned cummerbund. After the defeat of the kingdom of Montenegro in January 1916, King Nikola I stayed in exile in Bordeaux. [Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH FROM THE WESTERN FRONT.
