| Description | Haig, as Commander-in-Chief of the British forces, walks to the left of King Nikola I Petrovic of Montenegro (1860-1918). The king, wearing a long white coat, is acknowledging the Guard of Honour who are drawn up alongside a road. A two-storied brick building and a wire fenced yard form the background. Nikola I had been declared King of Montenegro in August 1910. Montenegro had entered the war in 1914 in support of Serbia, but was defeated by Austria in January 1916.
