| Description | King George V and his entourage walking through a street in Peronne, France. The King is walking at the front of the group, with a uniformed man on either side. All of the men, including the King, are in uniform. The building they are walking past has been devastated by shellfire. The buildings visible in the background have also been hit, but most of them remain standing. It is believed this photograph was taken the British official war photographer, John Warwick Brooke. During the war, many towns and villages close to the Front were devastated by shellfire. It took many years of painstaking work before the rebuilding work was completed.
