| Description | King George V talking to General Horne. The General is holding a piece of paper, possibly a map, in his left hand. Both men are smartly dressed in military uniform. The King is resting his weight on a cane. Two uniformed men are standing nearby. The photograph has been taken on a long tree-lined cobbled road that stretches far into the distance. There is nothing on the road apart from this small group. It is thought John Warwick Brooke took this photograph. One of General Horne's many roles throughout the war was as artillery advisor to General Haig. His expertise in this field - his army career began as a young man with the Royal Artillery - was invaluable to Haig.
