| Description | Two older men in the middle of the photograph are facing the camera. They are both wearing 'mountie-style' hats and sport bushy moustaches. The man sitting on the end of a log is smoking a cigarette. He is wearing a uniform jacket, but with no badges on it. His companion is resting one leg upon the end of a log and is resting an axe on the ground. He is wearing dungarees and a shirt. They are both leaning on a large pile of logs. The edge of the forest is visible in the background. The amount of wood consumed in the war effort is impossible to estimate but the effect on the landscape was marked. Many of the other photographs in this collection illustrate this. It was many years before the natural and mature forests began to regain their former glory. [Original reads: 'BRITISH OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE WESTERN FRONT. Canadian Forestry - Two typical Canadians.
