| Description | A uniformed His Royal Highness, the Duke of Connaught, sitting on his horse, at the Front in France, during World War I. He has one hand resting reassuringly on the neck of his horse. The Duke and his horse are alone in a grass-covered field that appears to be untouched by warfare. According to the existing caption the Duke is there to inspect some troops. Field Marshall His Royal Highness the Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (1850 - 1942), third son of Queen Victoria and Governor General of Canada between 1911 and 1916, was one of the main supporters of Canadian involvement in the war.
