DescriptionFrom left to right, an unidentified uniformed man; Sir Joseph Ward, the Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand; General Sir Douglas Haig, British Commander-in-Chief and William Massey, the Prime Minister of New Zealand. It was common for dignitaries and political leaders from the Allied countries to visit the Front during the war. Whilst there, they often took part in inspections, processions and presentations, visited secured areas of the Front, and toured training schools set up behind the line.
