| Description | Cavalrymen crossing a bridge, France, during World War I. This image shows a long line of cavalrymen travelling across a temporary bridge. They are all laden down with equipment. Their load includes food for the horses. There is a lot of debris scattered underneath the bridge. Scenes such as this were commonly used as propaganda, intended to boost morale amongst the troops and provide reassurance to those at home. They also manage, however, to provide an insight into the experiences of war. [Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT IN FRANCE.
