| Description | This man has possibly just fallen off the greasy pole in the greasy pole competition. He is splashing about in the river while he holds onto a rope attached to the pole. This event is part of a larger swimming competition, organised by the Cavalry. Soldiers at the Front were not on constant duty. There were periods allowed for recreation and relaxation.
