| Description | Captives marching through a town, during World War I. Prisoners taken captive by Canadian soldiers march through a small town. Soldiers and civilians watch from the roadside, as the captives are escorted through town by men on horseback. Some of the buildings on the right have been damaged, probably by bombing or fighting. Some windows are broken and boarded up. An image such as this would make good propaganda, and may have appeared in British or Canadian newspapers. It offers evidence that the Allies are making progress and beating down the enemy. [Original reads: 'Canadian captives marching through a town.'] |
