Thursday, 10th May—1.30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Before attempting to answer any question, candidates
should read the whole of it very carefully, since time
is often lost through misapprehension as to what is
really required.
All the working must be legible and shown in its proper
position in the answer, and the different steps should
be clearly indicated.
Four-place mathematical tables are provided.
Pages of square-ruled paper are included in the
answer book.
Marks may be deducted for careless or badly arranged
work.
The value attached to each question, or to each part of
a question, is shown in the margin.
SECTION I
All the questions in this Section should be attempted.
1- (i) Factorise
a3 — 52c ab {c — a).
(ii) Solve the equations
(x + 3y){2x ^-y) = 12,
x — 2y = 4.
(iii) Simplify
cos + ^4^ + cos A + cos .
