LINES ON THE GREAT MIRACLE OF

      OUR HOLY FATHER THE

                      POPE

You heroes of the Church of Rome attention pay to me
This great surprising miraclo I will relate to thee
Concerning this vile assasein the truth I do declare
That thought to take our Pontiff's life that s ts iu Peter's
chair

This villian was well arme'd with revorvers it is trne
Likewise a dagger in his breast disguised from people's view
He thought o get admittance his Holiness to see
To execute that wicked crime by cru l treachery

When he reache'd the holy cabinet uo farther he could go,
Till one of the blessed Cardinals his business here should
know
He says I have a secret I can't reveal to thee
No one on earth can hear it but his Holiness and me

The Cardinal said unto this man admitted you can't be
Into the ceamber of the Pope his Holiness to see
None but a Cing oa Emperor caa visit him aloue
So if you wish your business unto him I will make known

The Cardinal Then he did advance wiih reverential
Into the holy chamber where he foand the Pope at prayer
He says ther came a stranger your Holiness to see
With some religious secret that he won't reveal to me

Onr holy Pope made answer & with meekness bowed his
head
It's of no use for me to see the man that's lying dead
My Lord and blessed Bede n er has warned me this day
That man has come on purp se to take my life away .

The Cardioal retnrned from the chamber filled with dread
When hereached the holy cabi el this man wfis lying dead
With resolvers & a dagger on his pe son there was found
And a brace of loaded pistols beside him on the ground

Our Lord I am shure to Peterthose words then he did say
Then art to feed my lambs & sheep th t none may go astray
The geats ef hell shal not prevail against you it is true
Nor Satan and his cruel art shall ever injure you

Since I must conclude those lines fervently let us pray
And thank the Lord for what he done now every christian
may
But don't you see he told to us and I'm snre quite plain
He always will be With bis Church great Praises to his name
