Sorrowful lamentation on the Hollywood tragedy
A Sorrowful Lamensation
The Hollywood Tragedy.
Where two sisters have been brutally murdered,
All you who have kind feeling hearts with me now sympathise,Tis when you hear this tale of blood it will you much surprise ;Two holy sisters they were murdered all by some villain shane,Such horrid deed was never known in this our father-land.
'Twas on a Monday evening Richard Murphy hid come home,Then he beheld a dreadful sight—caus'd him to sigh and mo His sister Ellen, near the door, lay bleeding in her gore,Two awful wounds in her fair neck, her scull was batter'd sore
When the other sisters did arrive and found them all around,'Twas in a field near to the house was Anne's cold body foundA lifeless corpse covered with blood most dismal to be seen,It would freeze the hardest heart to see-a milking she had been
Their brother was arrested and sent to Kilmainham Jail,Compelled to stand his trial, for him they'd take no bail;On Circumstances he was tried, so all may plainly see,Why the learned Judge and Jury too have set the brother free.
It was no stranger done this deed well every one may knowBut some blood-thirsty villain to prove their overthrow; The money he would also take if he had only time,But Providence who rules above will yet reveal this crime.
This trial lasted seven days, in Green-street Court, we hear,His Parish Priest and others for him they did appear;Sidney and Curran, his counsellors, the law they did expound,The Judge and Jury did agree 'Not Guilty' he was found
Alas! no bloodyer deed was done in the most cruel times,Two fine young women murdered, for neither stain or crimes ;We hope all friends and neighbours will dovoutly for them pray"Vengeance is mine," said our Lord, upon the judgment day.
God help their dear relations, they now are pained in grief,By this most cruel murder, for them there's no relief; As these two sisters were beloved by all the neighbours roundWe hope to hear before 'tis long of the murderer been found.
