15th-century English manuscript containing three Middle English texts: 'Liber maundevyle'; the chivalric poem 'Sir Cleges'; and, 'De regimine principum' by Thomas Hoccleve
Description(i) 'Liber maundevyle', a version of Mandeville's Travels; several leaves are missing (folio 1); (ii) 'Sir Cleges', a verse romance (folio 71); (iii) 'De regimine principum' by Thomas Hoccleve; two leaves containing verses 739-754 are missing after folio 172 (folio 80). Each of the three texts is in a different hand but they were probably put together at an early date as the titles and some marginal notes in (i) and (iii) appear to be in one 15th-century hand. There are numerous scribblings, verses and drawings in slightly later hands.

Medieval and early modern manuscripts
DescriptionA selection of over 200 volumes of medieval and early modern manuscripts, dating from the 9th to the 17th century. Some of Scotland's most important early manuscripts are included in the many Scottish volumes. These are complemented by interesting and significant works of international origin, including volumes from France, England, the Low Countries, Italy and a number of other countries. Most of the manuscripts were collected by the Advocates Library, the forerunner of the National Library of Scotland.
