OF THE TRIPHTHONGS.
There are five Triphthongs, in each of which i is the
laft letter •, aoi, eoi, iai, iui, uai. In thefe, the two firft
vowels have the fame founds and powers as when they
form a Diphthong. The final i is founded fhort •, but
before a Palatal or a Lingual, not quiefcent, it lofes its
found, and only qualifies that of the following confonant,
Aoi.

2. Like ao: as ' caoineadh' wailing, ' maoile' baldnefs.
