LOG-IE is a parish, in the small debt court
district) of Stirling, and is bounded on the
north-west by Perthshire, east by Clack-
mannanshire and Bouth by the river Forth.
Under the provisions of the " Local Govern-
ment (Scotland) Act, 1889" (52 and 53 Vict,
c. 50, sections 44 to 50), boundary orders
124 & 127, a part of Lecropt parish in Stir-
lingshire and part of Alloa in Perthshire,
have been transferred to Logie, and those
portions of Logie parish formerly in the
counties of Clackmannan and Perth have
been added to Stirlingshire, the whole parish
of Logie therefore now being in the latter
county. The kirk is about 3 miles from
Stirling station on the North British and
Caledonian railway, and the same distance
from Bridge of Allan station on the Cale-
donian railway. The village of Blair Logie
is very agreeably situated at the base of
the Ochil hills, at the entrance to Sheriff.
Muir and the month of Glendevon; it pre-
sents a singularly pleasing scene of natural
beauty, and is a favourite resort in sum-
mer for visitors from the large towns.
The remains of Cambuskenneth Abbey,
founded in 1147, by King David I. for
Augustine canona, stand on the north of
the Forth, about 1 mile east of Stirling;
Borne of the materials were used in the
building of the structure called " Mar's
Work," in Stirling, James VI. having given
the abbey to the Earl of Mar at the Refor-
mation; the massive detached tower still
remains nearly perfect, and the foundations
of the church have been excavated so as to
disclose the plan and extent of the build-
ings, and during the progress of this work
the body of James Ill.killed at Sauchieburn
waB discovered and reinterred in a new
tomb near the site of the high altar, the
expense being borne by Her late Majesty
Queen Victoria, who had an inscription
detailing the particulars placed on the
tomb. About 1 mile north of the abbey
stands the Wallace Monument, a lofty
stone tower of 4 rooms, which contain
relics of the hero, including his sword
from Dumbarton, busts of other Scottish
worthies, and various curiosities; on the
outside, in front, is a bronze statue of
Wallace, who, in 1297, defeated the English
at the battle of Stirling Bridge, near this
spot. The principal landowners are Mrs.
Graham, of Airthrey Castle; J. M. Morries
Stirling esq. of Goear House; Lieut.-Col.
James Hare, of Blair Logie, and the
trustees of the late Gen. Sir J. E.
Alexander K.C.B. The area of the parish
[slater's
previous to the alteration of the boundary
was 11,814 acres; rateable value of present
area, landward £12,450; burghal (Bridge
of Allan), £24,930; the population in 1891,
4,252, and in 1901, 4,432, viz. : Bridge of
Allan police burgh; Stirling burgh, 252;
landward, 940; population of the ecclesias-
tical parish in 1901, 1,415, of which 77 are
in Clackmannanshire.
