3LACKHALL now forms part of the
newly-constituted civil parish of Paisley.
BRIDGE OF WEIE is a village
;acd a quoad sacra parish, formed from
the civil parishes of Houston and Kilbar-
chan, 1 mile from Houston and 3 from
Johnstone, with a station on the Glasgow
and Greenock section of the Glasgow and
South- We stern railway. The old part of
the village is situate in the parish of
Houston, and the new part in the parish
-of Kilbarchan, through which flows the
over Gryffe. The Banfurly Hotel is in
the village. The New Orphan Homes of
Scotland, comprising 64 buildings and a
sanatorium, erected under the superintend-
ence of William Quarrier esq. at a cost of
about £250,000, are about a mile and a
half from the village. A sanatorium for
the open air treatment of consumption
was added in 1893 and will hold 80 female
patients. The Established church here
-was erected at a cost of £3,000, and will
seat 500 persons. The population of the
village in 1891 was 1,646, and in 1901,
•2,242; the population of the ecclesiastical
parish in 1901 was 2,316.
