united parish, bounded by the river Clyde,
in the Upper ward and smo.ll debts court
district of Lanark. Wiston is on the Garf
water, a tributary of the Clyde, 1£ miles
north-west from Lamington station on the
Glasgow and Carlisle section of the Cale-
donian railway, and 7 miles south-west
from Biggar, which is the nearest market
town. Wiston Lodge, the property of Jabez
Edward Johnson-Ferguson esq. J. P. of
Springkell, Ecolefechan, is afc present
occupied by John Macliesh, and Harding-
ton House is the residence of Thomas Bal-
main esq. The Earl of Home K.T., A.D.C.,
V.D. Lord Lamington G.C.M.G. and J.
E. Johnson-Ferguson esq. are the princi-
pal landowners. Acreage, 13,153 ; rate-
able value, £7,688; population in 1891,
497, and in 1901, 412. Roberton is on the
Roberton brook, another tributary of the
Clyde, 3 miles south-west from Lamington
railway station.
