STBACHAN parish is bounded on the
east by Durris, Glenbervie and Fordoun, on
the south also by the latter parish and
Fettercairn, on the west by Lochlee and on
the north by Banchory Ternan, in the
Kincardineshire poor combination and
Stonehaven small debt court district. The
village is distant 3£ miles south from Ban-
chory. The parish extends 11 miles in
lensih by from 7 to 9 in breadth, contains
an area of 41,672 statute acres, and is for
the greater part a mass of hills, some of
which belong to the range of the Gram-
pians. Clochnabane, more than 2,300 feen
high, rises within the parish, the land of
which is low towards the north, on which
quarter it is bounded by the Dee, where it
is tolerably well cultivated and some of it
planted, strawberries being extensively
grown. The river Feugh passes through
this parish and falls into the Dee at
Bancuory, which is the nearest railway
station, 4 miles distant. Population of the
parish in 1891, 655, and in 1901, 626; rate-
able value, £6,017.
