TORRYBURN" is a parish and village,
the hitter 5 miles south-west of Dunferm-
line, and 17 south-west from Kirkcaldy.
-The parish, formed by the union of the
baronies of Torry and Crombie, extends for
5 miles along the Firth of Forth, and is
about 1£ broad; it lies within the parlia-
mentary division of West Fife, and in
the poor combination and small debt court
district of Dunfermline, and is bounded
north by Saline parish, west by Perthshire,
and east by Inverkeithing and Dunfermline.
The nearest railway stations are at Oakley
and East Grange, on the Dunfermline. Alloa
and Stirling section of the North British
railway. The inhabitants at one time were
chiefly employed in weoving,but this branch
of industry has become extinct. From the
rocky state of the shore it has been found
impossible to form a harbour here; but
there is a pier at Crombie point, where
impossible to form a harbour here ; but a
pier is situated at Crombie point, where
steamers can land goods and passengers.
The collieries of the Coltness Iron Co. Lim.
situated at East Grange in this parish, find
employment for most of the inhabitants.
A fair is held at Torryburn on the second
Wednesday in July. Within the boundary of
the parish and adjacent to Torryburn vil-
lage, is that of Low Torry. It is a very
pretty village, having Torry Bay in front,
with comparatively high back grounds pro-
tecting it from the north wind. Comrie
Castle, in this parish, is the residence
of William Mathewson esq, Archibald
Dominic Smith-Sligo esq. of Inzievar, Oak-
ley, Lady Marindin, of Craigflower, R. W.
P. Campbell-Preston esq. and John Allan
Maconochie-Wellwood esq. J. P. of Pitliver
House, Dunfermline, are the principal
landowners. The area of the parish com-
prises 3,410 acres; rateable value in 1903,
£7,345. The population in 1891 was 913,
and in 1901, 1,130, including 656 in the
village.

TULLIALLAN is a parish, formerly
included as part of Perthshire, though lo-
cally situated in Fifeshire, to which county
it was transferred by a Local Government
Order dated 13 December, 1890, and con-
firmed 23rd February, 1891 ; it is in the poor
combination of Stirling and small debt court
district of Dunfermline, and contains the
town of Kincardine (or Kincardine-on-
Forth), and extends about 5 miles from
north to south by 2 in breadth. It is
bounded on the north and east by the
parishes of Saline and Torryburn, and south
and west by the river Forth and part of
Clackmannanshire. The old church, which
remains standing in the burial ground, is a
ruin, the steeple, however, being perfect.
Tulliallan Castle, the seat of the Hon. Sir
James Sivewright K.C.M.G. who is lord of
the manor, is a modern mansion close to
th ruins of the ancient castle. The Mar-
quess of Lansdowne K.G., P.C. Lord Bal-
four of Burleigh K.T., P.C. and Laurence
Johnston esq. of Sands, are the principal
landowners. The area comprises 3,685
acres; rateable value, £9,000; the popula-
tion in 1891 was 2,177 and in 1901, 1,862,
of which 1,627 are in the town of Kin-
cardine.
