SALINE is a parish and village, the latter
6 mile® north-west from Dunfermline and
11 west from Lochgelly. The parish,
is in the parliamentary division of West
Fife, and poor combination and small debt
court district of Dunfermline, and extends
H miles from north to south by about 4
broad; it is bounded on the west and north-
west by Clackmannanshire and Perthshire,
north-east and east by Dunfermline and
south by Carnock; the inhabitants are en-
tirely occupied in agriculture. The nearest
railway station is Oakley, 2i miles dis-
tant, on the Dunfermline, Alloa and Stir-
ling section of the North British line.
The Earl of Elgin and Kincardine ICG.,

are the principal landowners. The area of
the parish comprises 8,757 acres; rateable

SCOONIE is a parish on the north shore
of the Firth of Forth, and contains the sea
port town of Leven (which see) ; the parish
is bounded north by Ceres, east by Largo,
south by the Forth and west by Wemyss,
Kennoway and Kettle; it extends 5 miles
from north to south by 2 to 2^ in breadth
and is in the small debt court district of
Leven, in which town there is a station on
the Thornton junction, Anstruther and St.
Andrews section, of the North British rail-
way, and the parish church is in Leven.

principal landowners. The area comprises
4,107 acres ; rateable value, landward
£10,000; burghal (Leven), £20,261 ; the

SPRINGFIELD is a village in the parish
oE Cupar, with a station on the main line
of the North British railway, 2$ miles
south-west of Cupar-Fife, and 3 north-west
of Ceres; if. is a quoad sacra parish formed
from the parishes of Ceres,Cults and Cupar.
The inhabitants find employment in the
large jute works of Messrs. Smith, Laing
& Co. ; there are also engineering and mill-
wrights works carried on by J. Bobh &
Sons at Hospital Mill. Crawford Priory,
the residence of the Hon. Thomas Horatio
A. E. Cochrane M.P. is a fine mansion on
the road to Coupar. The population of the
village in 1891 was 748, and in 1901, 785;
the population of the ecclesiastical parish
in 1901 was 1,512.
