'Monkton Hall is a small village and Brun-
-etane, or Brunstane â– Mills, a hamlet, both in!
the parish, of Inveresk, the latter being 1
about a mile from Musselburgh. New Craig
Sail, or Niddrie, is a miniDg village, 1 mUe
-west from Fisherrow, and has a station at
:New Hail-es and a goods station on the
North British railway at Niddrie. At New
Craighall is a reading room, supported
by the miners and the Colliery Co. The
colliery works of the Niddrie and Benhar
'Coal Co. Limited are near here. Dean-
town and Cowpits are colliery villages fur-
ther south. At Wallyford and Carberry
.^the Edinburgh Collieries Co. Limited have
several pits. The area comprises 5,169
;acres ; rateable value, including Mussel-
I'ourgh, £77,651, of which £49,703 is for
-the burgh; population in 1S91, 11,509, and
;in 1901, 14,650, of which 11,706 were in
.Alusselburgh ; population of ecclesiastical
rparish in 1901, 6,982.
New Craighail is an ecclesiastical parish
formed from the parishes of Inveresk,
ZLiberto'n and Newton ; the population in
1901 was 3,336 in the ecclesiastical parish
.and 1,633 in the village, which includes
Wanton Walls. North Esk is an eccle-
siastical parish formed from Inveresk ;

iord is a village in the civil parish ; the
^population in 1901 was 673.
