STRATHMIGLO
TS a parish and a small town— the latter nearly two miles from
Aucbtennuchty, and eight from Kinross, and is a station on the
Fife and Kinross branch of the North British Railway, which runs
close by the town, distant about seven miles from Lallybank Junc-
tion on the Edinburgh, Perth and Duudee branch, and about seven
miles by road, situated in a pleasant plain, and on the north bank of
the Mit-'lo or Eden; it consists chiefly of two streets, with several
lanes diverging from them. The town house stands about tho centre
of the principal street; it has a square steeple, at the top of which
is a balcony surrounded by balustrades, the whole being surmounted
by a spire nearly eighty feet high ; from the front of the steeple
projects a stone pillar which formerly served as a sun dial, now
much defaced; above this are the arms of the house of Burleigh
1G05, but the nomination of bailies and admittance of burgesses'
was vested in the person of the superior. On the opposite sides of
the Miglo is the village of the Feus of Cash, and between the old
town aud this village is a level meadow called Town-green, inter-
sected by tho Miglo, and belonging to the burgh. The manufacture
of liueo is carried on to a limited extent, and there is a bleach works.
The places of worship are a church of the Establishment, two Free
churches, and an United Presbyterian church. The first mentioned
is a plain building, standing at the entrance of the town. A fair is
held at Strathmiglo on tho last Friday in Juuo. The parish of
Strathmiglo, which embraces an area of 9,024 acres, had in 1881, a
population of 2,061.
Gateside is a village in the parish of Strathmiglo, distant two
miles west therefrom.
By charter in 1600, the detached portions of Feus were erected into
a burgh of barony, and this grant was confirmed by James VI., in

G 30 p.m., and are despatched thereto at 6 45 a.m. and 4 15 p.m. Money Order and Telegra2>h Office and Savings Bank.
