INVEEKEITHING,
WITH THE PARISH OF DALGETTY, AND THE VILLAGES AND HAMLETS OF NORTH QTJEENSFERRY, ST. DAVID'S,
FORDELL, HILLEND, JAMES TOWN AND ROSYTH.
INVERKEITHING is a royal burgh, a seaport, and the capital
of its parish ; 11 miles n.w. from Edinburgh, 30 s. from Perth,
13 b.w. from Kirkcaldy, and 4 s.e. from Dunfermline. It is most
agreeably situated at the inner side of a bay of the Firth of Furth.on
an acclivity springing from the margin of the hay, and about 2 miles
from North Queen-ferry, on the great road from Edinburgh to Perth,
Aberdeen, &c, and on a railway from Edinburgh to Dunfermline,
via Queensferry. Its site commands an extensive view of the south

castle and fine buildiDgs, lofty spires and towering monuments,

anchor or moored in the harbour, add greatly to the beauty of the
survey. So early as the days of David L, Inverkeithing was a royal
residence, and received a charter of confirmation in tbo reign of
William the Lion. There are many remains of antiquity, some of
which areco-eval with the earliest periods of Scottish history. The
old castle of Rosyth, the celebrated residence of Margaret, spouse
of Malcolm Canmore, and subsequently of the Stuart family, still
resists the fury of the storm, and rears its venerable head amidst
