GLASGOW NORTH PARISH WASHING GREEN CHARITABLE
SOCIETY.
This Society was Incorporated by '" Seal of Cause, " dated 15th
January, 1794, for purely charitable purposes, the recipients of its
charity being the deserving poor of tbe North quarter. The funds
of the Society consist of the yearly interest of about i'3,000. Entry-
moneys of new Members, 21s. each. All applications for relief fro u
the funds are carefully considered, and the funds judiciously dis-
pensed. The Society does great good in a quiet way.

The object af this Society is to afford charitable aid to such of its
members' and their widows as may be reduced to destitute circum
stances. Members must not be under the age of 14 when admitted'
nor above the age of 45, and must be resident in tbe district formerly
known as the burgh of Auderston or aeighbourhood thereof. The
Directors, however, aro empowered to admit members above that
age if desirous to join from motives of philanthropy and above any
present probability of needing relief.

after the entry-money is paid, the Society becomes liable for the
funeral money of £1Q or £2.0, as may have been contributed for. An
annuity of £Q or £12 is also provided to members above 70 years
of age.

Founded by Miss Isabel Robertson, 5th August, 1844. The funds
are to be distributed amongst (1) ten decayed gentlewomen, who
shall have been residing for at least ten years in Glasgow, who shall
not be less than 45 years of age, and shall never have been married ;
(2) ten females each of whom shall have, for at least seveu years
consecutively, been a hired servant in one family in Glasgow, shall
not be under 50 years of age, shall never have been married, and at
the time of selection shall be out of service. Amount of pensions at
present (1) £13, and (2) £9.

This Society was established for the purpose of supplying in t,
measures the necessities, and contributing towards the relief , of dis-
tressed natives and descendants of natives of the northern counties
of Scotbmd. A contribution of £44s. constitutes membership; the
payment of which may be extended over the first four years after
admission, at tbe rate of £1 Is. per annum.
THE BALMANNO BEQUEST.
Founded by the late Miss Balmanno, in 1856, for providing annui-
ties of £20 each to unmarried ladies, natives of Glasgow, not under
40 years of age, who have been brought up in the prospect of inde-
pendence, and accustomed to superior society, but who from adver-
sity may have fallen into reduced circumstances. There are at
present seven annuities.

be in want of temporary aid. No applicant shall be relieved whose
character for honesty, sobriety, and industry has not been satisfac-
torily ascertained.
HOUSE OF SHELTER FOR FEMALES,
114 Hill Street, Garnethili.
Tho " Shelter " was instituted in 1850, its object being to provide
a home for females, on their liberation from prison, who are de-
sirous lo reform and supput themselves by honest industry. The
average number of inmates in tho " Shelter " during tho past year
was 45. They are employed in needlework, the iustitution receiving
the proceeds of their labour, in return for which tho inmates aro
lodged, fed and clothed.

Was instituted 1790; incorporated by a Chartor from the City o
Glasgow, 1791. Their annual meeting is held on the last Thurs-
day of March

The stated meetings are on the last Thursday of July and Novem-
ber, and on the Thursday before the annual meeting. They grant
no permanent pension. Applications for pecuniary aid must be
made every year, and lodged with tbo Secretary before the 1st of
March. The following facts must be distinctly attested on per-
sonal knowledge by respectable persons, to whom they are known—
1. That the applicants aro children of a minister of the Church of
Scotland, whose fathers are dead. 2. The age, progress in educa-*
tion, destination, prospects or employment of each child in tho
family, old or young. 3. How they have hitherto been supported,
and the means of their present subsistence, of whatever kind,
whether certain or precarious ; and generally that the facts set
forth in the Petition are truly stated in all respects. Applicants to
appoint some person in town to call on the Secretary on the first
Tuesday in April, for auswore to their potitious*
