The Glasgow Royal Asylum is incorporated by Royal Charter. Its
affairs are managed by directors, who are in part deputed from various
public bodies in the city, and in part appointed by the qualified contri-
butors to the funds of the Institution. The Asylum provides accommo-
dation for over 500 patients from all grades of society, and at all rates of
board. No one derives any pecuniary gain from the boards paid for
patients. Application for the admission of patients should bo made to
Dr. Yellowlees, the Physician-Superintendent at the Asylum. When
practical, the application should be personal rather than by letter.

governors may select and appoint.

Founded on a bequest to the city of Glasgow by the late J. Buchanan,
Esq. for the education and industrial training of destitute boys. The
pupils reside with their friends at night, but receive three substantial
meals daily at the institution. They are taught reading, writing, and
arithmetic, besides the elements of navigation, gymnastics, tailoring,
Bhoemaking, and carpentry, to fit them for the navy andarmy, the mer-
chant and marine service, and as emigrants to the colonies.

GLASGOW HOME FOR DESERTED MOTHERS,

Established in 1878, and supported by Yoluntaiy Contributions.
The aim and object of this Home is to supply a desideratum, the want
of which has beon long experienced in this city and the West of Scotland,
to afford temporary shelter and maintenance to destitute and houseless
mothers, with their helpless infants. Those only who have for the first
time deviated from the paths of virtue, or who have been led astray, are
eligible for admission. While resident in the Homo a vigilant super-
vision is exercised over tbem. Much attention is paid to their moral and
religious welfare, and every effort made to procure suitable situations for
them. The infants are placed under the care of proper and-trust worthy
nurses, all of whom are under the oversight and supervision of the
matron. The Home is managed by a committee of ladies, assisted by a
board of gentlemen, and is under the general superintendence of a
matron.

Founded in 1877, under the will of Miss Ann Maxwell Graham, of
