city and its creditors, and to effect a settlement of tiie said city and town of Leith," a sum of £5,08 < is paid annually to the city of

£2,000 for behoof of the ministers of the city of Edinburgh ; £3,180 for behoof of the creditors of the said city ; and £2,500 for behoof
of the colleges and schools thereof." The annuity-tax paid to the Edinburgh ministers was abolished in 1870, the Act of Parliament
authorising'the Commissioners to borrow £40,000, and hand it over to the Edinburgh Ecclesiastical Commissioners in redemption
of the £2,0o0 annually paid b3 r them. The burgh of Leith receives annually from the Commissioners a sum of £500, in lieu of certain
