DALBEATTIE.
SLATER'S
burthen. Since the extension of the railway system in
Stewartry, the shipping trade lias greatly fallen away. It used
be the chief port for supplying the surrounding neighbourhood
with coal and various other sea-borne necessaries. The parish is
bounded on the east by the Urr, on the south by the Solway Frith,
and on the west by Kelton. It is a fertile and agricultural district,
the eight miles in length and three in breadth, and contains an area of
I to 11,391 statute acres, with a population in 1871 of 1,026.
CoLVEND is a parish adjoining Kirkbean. It is entirely agri-
cultural, and is only remarkable for its scenery. Kipfoed and
RocKLiFFE are two villages in this parish, which in 1871 had a
population of 1,318.
