to a considerable height from the river frontage. The village has ' two and a half miles in breadth, along the south bank of the river

becoming a popular suburb of Dundee. Newport possesses three
handsome churches, and a commodious public hall, erected at a
cost of £4,000. The south end of the Tay Bridge is at Wormit,
about a mile tn the west of West Newport, and when the railway
connecting it with Tayport, and passing through Newport, is com-
pleted, Newport will probably gro-,v even more r.-ipidlv tlian it has
church of Forgan is nearly two miles inland, being ten miles from
Cupar and the same distance from St. Andrews. The landward
part of the parish is richly wooded and well cultivated. The Man-
sion House of St. Fort, standing out conspicuously in the lands.-iano,
is in this parish : and about one mile west from Newport is the*
small harbom' of Woodhaven. Population of the parish in 1871
