S a parish, in the district ol Carriok— the village is 98 miles s.w. i ancient castles, contribute to the general interest ol the scenery,
of Edmbnrgh (through Maj'bole and Ayr), 47 s. by w. of Glasgow, The parish is about six miles in length by about five in breadth, and
46 N.N.E. of Poitpatrick (by the new road, which is longer by Ihree ' contains about 18,078 acres ; the uplands are bleak and pastoral ;
miles than along the coast), 15 s. by e. of Ajt, 7 s. from Maybole, ' but the more level parts are weU cultivated, enclosed, and planted,
and 6 K.K.E. from Girvan. The situatiou of this village is not ' Coal and hmestone abound in several parts of the parish. The
